Alpha was… surprisingly competent.
For a film that’s main selling point is 'cute wolfdog befriends boy' that is. The narrative itself isn’t anything that standout, a young boy is separated from his tribe on a hunt and left for dead, his struggles chart a coming of age story. Stand out elements would be costume design and cinematography, the animal CGI is mostly ok but can show some seams here and there particularly during movement.
This will probably appeal to small children, families, and suckers for a good shot composition. It has cute wolf scenes if you just fall to pieces over that type of thing. My enjoyment was likely hampered somewhat by the infant crying directly behind me for the duration.
