Bad Boys for Life Review

Bad Boys for Life was loud, obnoxious, and worst of all, corny.

The films idea of humor is to repeat the same three jokes over and over again for the entire runtime, the plot is serviceable nonsense but hardly a selling point, Martin Lawrence and Will Smith reprise their roles well but having never been attached to these characters and their shtick this didn’t do much for me.

That said, if you liked the previous films I suspect you’ll find this one similarly entertaining, it does a lot of the same things with little iteration, though they do manage to get away from Michael Bay’s scattershot action scenes which is nice. Comedy is extremely subjective so if you think Will Smith telling someone he fucked their mom is the height of comedy, this is likely going to suit.

The film does at least make an attempt at developing its characters, acknowledging the passage of time and the flagging relationship between the diametrically opposed duo, but ultimately, it just can’t help itself and any lesson that may have been learned is overshadowed by the gratuitous finale.

Overall Bad Boys is surprisingly consistent with the previous films in the series which may or may not be a good thing to you. I personally found it to be more annoying than anything else. Dull characters and a nothing plot attempting to be held up by jokes that miss more often than they hit. When it’s not making you roll your eyes at its latest “wife so angry” joke it’s throwing so much cheeseball sentiment your way its hard to keep up with how many people you don’t care about.

4/10 They should’ve retired.
