Dark Pheonix Review

Dark Phoenix wasn't as awful as I expected, but still pretty bad.

It starts out as a bad interpretation of one of the best sagas in comics history and is only really held up by the talent on screen, primarily Turner, Fassbender, and McAvoy.

Nothing else about this film is really all that noteworthy, it's watchable but not particularly enthralling, there are some unintentionally cringey lines thrown around as well, that almost rival Storm’s infamous lightning joke from the first Bryan Singer film (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe32Iag9RCQ). They even try to shoehorn in an embarrassing feminist line which couldn't have felt more forced if they'd dragged Brie Larson on set to deliver it.

So soon after Godzilla: King of Monsters this film at least understands pacing and semi coherent character goals. But this is like choosing between a steaming pile of shit and some lightly molded leftovers you found in the back of your fridge. There’s a clear better choice, but there's no reason to subject yourself to either of them when there are much better films to give your time and money to.

4/10 Jean deserved better.
