Hereditary was… terrifying.
This was excellent, exceeding my expectations for the genre entirely. The shot composition is incredible, utilizing a wide range of angles to give the film a more dynamic feel which plays well into the themes. The editing is also very clean, giving the film a seamless and relentless feeling. Toni Collette's performance is an easy standout here, but everyone is solid except for the son who can be downright awful at a few points. I don't scare easily and this isn't really a jump in your seat sort of horror film for the most part but it is very fucking creepy and watching the progression of Ellen (Toni Collette) from the beginning to the end is worth the price of admission lone.
This is a very special horror film and likely to be one of my favorites of the year, go see it.
10/10 Head and shoulders above the rest.
